On 7 December, Shah Mehmood Qureshi reiterated Imran Khan’s plans to dissolve Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies within the next few days. He said, “Today, the party and the party's leadership have given authority to Khan [for the assemblies' dissolution]…Khan now intends to dissolve the assemblies soon so that the process can be taken forward.” Further, he revealed PTI’s plans of forming a new government in the provinces as soon as possible.
Qureshi also criticised the government saying, “We believe that even if the PDM's (Pakistan Democratic Movement) federal government is keeping its own interests above the state's and not thinking about holding general elections, then new governments should be formed in both provinces before Ramadan.” He claimed that the PTI wants to put an end to anarchy in the state and wishes to “end the differences” that have taken place in the last eight months.
FM Ishaq Dar speaks to President Alvi on political and economic matters
In a bit to bridge the gap between the PTI and the government, President Arif Alvi met with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for the third time. During the meeting, FM Dar spoke about political and economic matters as well as the PTI’s cooperation in bringing about political stability. Meanwhile, PML-Q leader Ch Shujaat Hussain offered to mediate on PTI’s behalf with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif when and if Imran Khan agreed to the proposal.
